My Story

Welcome to Melanin Sprout – a Black-owned business dedicated to spreading empowerment, self-love, and motivation through every design.

I believe in the power of this verse. My mission is rooted in the hope and purpose that God has for every child, and I am here to inspire them to embrace their worth and walk boldly into the future.

My name is Shamia, and my story begins with deep Southern roots from Birmingham, AL, though I was born and raised in the vibrant city of Boston. I am a proud graduate of Howard University, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and involved in several community organizations.

This business is not just about selling t-shirts—it is about building a legacy for my family and the next generation. As the proud aunt (and godmother) to a host of nieces, nephews, and godchildren, I am deeply passionate about instilling in them the values of self-love, self-worth, and empowerment. This journey is for them, and for every Black child who deserves to see themselves represented in the world in a positive and uplifting way.

I believe in the mantra, “To whom much is given, much is required.” It is my duty and obligation to create a space where the next generation feels valued, inspired, and strong. As adults, we know that people will try to tear you down, but I want the children in my life—and yours—to grow up knowing their power.

Every t-shirt I offer carries a message of strength, confidence, and resilience, reminding Black children (and adults) of their endless potential. Melanin Sprout is here to empower, uplift, and inspire.
